This radio is a great radio to throw into your hiking kit, and to toss into your emergency kit. It offers more features than most hikers will ever use, but is simple to operate simply.
I recommend using the ABBREE AR-771 Tri-Band Radio 2M-1.25M-70CM 15.1in Whip Antenna which has a SMA-Female connection making it fit easily onto the Baofeng UV-5RM.
If you are into it, I also recommend the ABBREE AR-152A VHF-UHF 71cm/28.3in Tactical Foldable Antenna, also with the SMA-Female connection.
Currently, the radios are around $30 each, and you can probably find a two-pack of them. The antenna's are around $10 each. So, around $40 a radio is not too shabby for what you get. It is light enough where I will probably carry two of them and maybe an extra fully-charged 2500mAh lithium rechargeable battery.
This radio seems to push out around 7-8 watts of power, which is great for hiking. It can also pickup FM, NOAA weather, AM aviation band, and maybe more. The radio I purchased came with a 2500mAh rechargeable battery, and can be charged in the cradle or via a USB-C plug.
